Spreading the love on Valentine’s Day

Our buddies were busy at Valentine’s Day this year as they worked together to create Valentine’s cards. We decorated the hearts using pieces of felt and our buddies helped us to write a nice message to a loved one.

Student Council

Our Student Council distributed suggestion boxes to each class in the school and collected the various thoughts and ideas to discuss and possibly introduce in our school. We are hoping to use our council to promote student voice at Milltown N.S. They also got new ‘Student Council’ badges (thanks to Ms. Shannon) and these make it easier to identify our Student Council and chat with them if there are any issues or concerns in relation to the students at our school.

Quiz Teams

Our school participated in the Cavan Credit Union Schools’ Quiz and The Cumann na mBunscol Quiz in the month of January and February. We had very eager and knowledgeable teams but on these occasions we were not lucky enough to come home with medals. We did, however, win a set of handballs for our school at the Cumann na mBunscol quiz in the Hotel Kilmore and these are being put to good use in the handball alley daily.

We had a super day out at the Cumann na mBunscol handball competition which took place in Kingscourt. The children represented themselves and their school so well, showing great skill  and determination in all games. Special mention to Isabelle and Saoirse (3rd Class) who finished runners up in the girls u11 doubles competition. Well done everybody!

The schoolgirls have had a fantastic run in the championship remaining unbeaten in the group stages and topping our group. They played their semi-final against Kill on Tuesday evening in very heavy rain but the weather did not dampen the girls determination.

The two teams were evenly matched and we went into the break with a 2-2 to 1-1 lead but the game was far from over. The girls came out and got the second half off to a great start with a well taken point followed quickly by a goal but the opposition replied with two goals in swift succession. The game continued in similar fashion with scores exchanged at both ends of the field and with 5 minutes left on the clock it was all level. It was then that the girls dug deep and scored 2-2 without reply. A super game all round with great goalkeeping and accurate kick-outs, the backs held firm in their defense. The two girls at midfield put in super shift covering lots of ground and there was great team work and support in the forward line.

End score: Milltown 5-6 Kill 4-1

We now face Corlurgan in the final on Saturday in Killygarry, time TBC.

Your support on the day would be greatly appreciated.

On Saturday 25th May the children from 2nd class made their First Communion. Congratulations to all the boys and girls!

Our 6th class pupils celebrated their Confirmation on Saturday 11th May in Milltown church. The sun was shining as the pupils and their families arrived. The Minister was Fr. John McTiernan and he confirmed the Milltown N.S. and the Greaghrahan N.S pupils in front of a packed church of family, friends and teachers. The ceremony was enhanced by the beautiful musical and singing talents of both the Milltown Church choir and the Milltown school choir. The church was beautifully decorated and as always Sr. Rita was there with the school choir and to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day. Fr. Gerry welcomed everyone and made all the pupils feel comfortable and at ease.

Each pupil carried out their duties on the day with grace and confidence and did both themselves and their school proud. We wish to congratulate the pupils on this important occasion in their Faith journey

Our school boy took part in the School Boys Cumann na mBunscol Football league in the first term and played 3 games in the groups stages. They played Ballyhaise, Ballynarry and Ballyconnell resulting in one victory and two narrow losses with the team showing steady improvement with each game but unfortunately we missed out on securing a semi-final spot. The boys really enjoyed their training and games and it was great to see new boys coming out to Gaelic training for the first time.
