Ms Kelly

First class completed a Spring nature hunt today around the school. Luckily we got most ticked off our check list

First class has sprung right into Spring with their first planting activity of the year.  They explored soil discs for planting and observed the absorption of water which was all new to the class! Half the class planted peas and the other half planted salad leaves. Can’t wait to see the results!

First class has been learning about Spain for the month of February.  And no better way to finish off this topic other than getting to interview our very own Anna Sanmartin in 6th class from Spain. The class worked in pairs, creating their own interview questions.  There was great excitement when they got to become the interviewer! Huge thanks to Anna for her help.

First class really enjoyed Pancake Tuesday. Every child chose one topic of choice to bring in to decorate their pancake and selected a range of other toppings Ms.Kelly had to choose from. There was smiles all around !

First class really enjoyed the GAA coach, learning new skills and trying out different sports. Over the weeks the class tried out Gaeilic football, Rugby and American football.

1st class we’re very busy investigating and exploring magnets. The class predicted, tested and recorded results of items that attracted and repelled magnetism. Each group got creative and made up their own game using magnets to play as a closing activity.

1st class carried out a range of different science experiments through out the week. We were fortunate to be joined by our own scientist Blathnaid who gave everyone a chance to be a scientist themselves.

The class dressed up as astronauts and experienced what it was like to walk on the moon.

The class made raisins dance, explore how candles need oxygen to light and made their very own lava lamp.

Ms.Kelly’s 1st Class 2023/2024

Today Ms.Kelly’s class let their butterflies out after looking after them from baby caterpillars. This was a great experience for the class to witness the lifecycle of the butterfly first hand.

Everyone in Ms.Kelly senior infants and first class grew their ow sunflower as part of the Aistear theme the garden centre. We had great results !

Senior infants and first were busy making a positive display for their class. ‘ Be a rainbow to someone’s cloud’

January

This month Ms.Kelly’s Senior infants and First class were introduced to relay races. They got the hang of it quickly and soon were really competitive!

Pyjama Day and Hot Chocolate Party!

Milltown N.S. looked very different on Tuesday 13th December when our students arrived in their pyjamas and dressing gowns. There were even a few pairs of slippers on show! The pyjama day had been suggested by the Student Council and helped to get us all into the Christmas spirit. Each class had hot chocolate, biscuits and a movie in the afternoon to finish what had been a very enjoyable day!

December

Ms.Kelly's senior infants reused their old socks to make the perfect Christmas decoration. We had lots of fun making these little snowmen and even more fun naming them!

Ms.Kelly’s class really got involved in Science week and enjoyed every minute! The little scientists experimented why 7up makes raisins dance, why warm water can make skittles make a pretty rainbow, how a glass can show refraction, how shaving foam and food colouring can replicate the formation of rain along with exploring how static energy works! Everyone worked really hard and really got their thinking hats on!

Three mask winners from Ms.Kelly’s room. Well done to Erin, Ruby and Emelia. Everyone made a huge effort with the competition and Ms.Gaffney had a really tough job picking three, as they were all fantastic.

Senior Infants and 1st Class looked very different on Friday 28th October!!

Ms.Kelly’s Senior infants and First class took part in a maths trail around the school. They had to find a set number of items around the school along with finding all 10 number cards which were hid around the school also.

On Friday we played games with our buddies in fourth class and practiced using the 100 square and number line to add numbers.

This week senior infants and first class in Ms.Kellys room were investigating shadows. We explored how shadows change by moving objects closer and further away from the light source. These are examples of some of the cool animals we made using our hands!

Senior infants and first class practised balancing using bean bags on our head. We even challenged ourselves and completed the entire obstacle course without dropping the bean bag!
